Summer at Finca La Emperatriz is a time to work by lovingly preparing the various plots in order to achieve exceptional grapes when the much anticipated time of the harvest finally comes.
By now the grapes have already reached maximum growth, so we have cut any plants covering the ground in the vineyards in order to prevent them from competing with the vines for water and nutrients, which have started to become scarce.
Pruning is also being carried out these days. This involves cutting any protruding stems in the vines in order to avoid overlapping of different layers of vegetation, thus encouraging the growth of the clusters.

In addition we are also removing leaves from the vines in order to achieve greater aeration of the clusters and to increase their exposure to sunlight. This way we will prevent them from being attacked by fungal pests. This is a task that we have to carry out by hand in the oldest goblet-trained vines.
